When the mixture is exposed to heat, the BlazeTamer380™ solution undergoes an endothermic reaction that produces a rapid cooling effect. As a result of this reaction, an extensive network of the macromolecules can be seen interconnected to form an irregular branched structure. The density of the structure reduces the evaporation rate of the modified H2O molecules. This network blankets the fire preventing oxygen from fuelling the combustion reaction. Without the presence of oxygen, the fire is extinguished.

There are several different types of products in this category but most are foams or super-absorbent polymers that can hold many times their own weight of water. These products are fairly innocuous to people, although goggles and gloves should be used when working with any concentrate. They have a fairly low toxicity to fish. While most are not biodegradable they may break down when exposed to sunlight.
These products create very slippery conditions where they are applied and it can be difficult to remove them once the fire has passed. Because they function by absorbing and holding water, applications to aged wood may hasten deterioration of structures, especially historical resources.
BlazeTamer380™ is not a super-absorbent or cross-linked polymer. It is a modified linear polymer, the base of which is sometimes used in the food/medical industry. Additionally, BlazeTamer380™ has undergone a rigorous and comprehensive testing regime relating to its use as a fire fighting water additive.
